Josh Steen once observed his close buddy Ronnie McNutt commit suicide live on Facebook.
He is now battling for clarification from the company and other social media sites where there are numerous clips of the suicide.
Ronnie’s image has been one of the most recognizable on the internet for the past two and a half weeks, yet these corporations assert that they have to detect software to stop it, so something isn’t right, he claimed.
At 22:00 Mississippi time, during the broadcast, he reported it to Facebook, two hours after the video had begun and 30 minutes before Ronnie committed suicide.
Not until 23:51, he claimed, did Facebook respond, informing him that the video did not violate its community guidelines.
On August 31, the video was first broadcast live on Facebook. Since then, recordings have appeared on Instagram and TikTok, where users are attempting to hide the content under more benign films.
Susan McLean, a specialist in cyber security and a supporter of children’s safety, wrote a warning about the disturbing video on Facebook.
If your older teens use the app, make sure you don’t let them use it today, Ms. Mclean said on Facebook.
