Born on April 25, 1957, in Sheldon to Thomas and Betty Bonestroo, Tom’s roots in the Hull area were deepened as his family relocated to the town during his childhood. Tom’s educational journey led him through Boyden-Hull Elementary and High School, culminating in his graduation in 1975. On June 20, 1975, Tom embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship, marrying his high school sweetheart, Laura Kay Smit, in Boyden.

Together, they built their home in Hull before settling west of town in Perkins in 1977. Tom’s early work experiences included contributing to his father’s business, Bonestroo Salvage, and working for Northwest Builders, both situated in Perkins. In pursuit of his passion, Tom later joined Sioux-Preme Packing in Sioux Center, dedicating himself to the role until 1996.

His entrepreneurial spirit flourished as he ventured into the ownership of Bonestroo Salvage, a legacy from his father. Tom’s industrious nature didn’t stop there; he also operated Tom’s Gun Shop, located in the basement of his home. Tom Bonestroo’s impact extended beyond the professional realm; he was a cherished member of the community, known for his warmth, generosity, and dedication.

His contributions to both work and community life were testament to his commitment to making a positive difference. The community will gather to remember and celebrate Tom’s life.
