The Kamehameha Schools Maui and Baldwin High School girls soccer teams both won their consolation matches Friday and advanced to the final day of the Motiv8 Foundation/HHSAA Division I state tournament.
The Warriors (11-1-2), who lost to Kamehameha Kapalama 1-0 in overtime in Thursday’s quarterfinals, played another low-scoring match Friday before breaking through late to beat Waiakea 1-0.
Krychalei Loui scored in the 79th minute to send the Maui Interscholastic League champions to today’s fifth-place match against MIL runner-up Baldwin (10-5-0).
The Bears got there by beating Hilo 2-1. After Aneala Sibayan put the Vikings up early with her goal in the eighth minute, Baldwin rallied with a pair of quick second-half goals from Sammi Kinoshita (41st minute) and Tamilyn Ebisu (46th).
Also in action today is MIL Division II champion Seabury Hall (7-1-0), which advanced to the D-II consolation final with a win over Waialua on Thursday. The Spartans take on Radford today.
