Report: 3 Maui police officers fired in 2015 | News, Sports, Jobs

Three Maui Police Department officers were fired in disciplinary actions last year, according to a report submitted to the state Legislature.

One officer is contesting his firing, which was among 16 suspensions or terminations from employment ordered for violations of MPD policies and procedures in 2015. Eleven of the actions are final. Five were in the grievance process, including one of the firings, according to the summary dated Jan. 1.

The number of MPD internal investigations resulting in suspensions and terminations from employment decreased by 43 percent last year, compared with 28 such disciplinary actions reported in 2014.

Police didn’t sustain any charges of misconduct for mistreatment of a prisoner, malicious use of physical force, use or possession of drugs or narcotics or cowardice, according to the report.

The names of the officers weren’t made public.
