Katie Meers Obituary Ankeny Iowa, Death And Funeral Details

Katie Meers Obituary, Death – Katie Anne Meers, 21, died suddenly at home early on December 23, 2023. On Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., services will be conducted at Saylorville Church (6429 NW 6th Dr., Des Moines), with visitation commencing at 11:30 a.m. Katie shone brightly for everyone who knew her. During her time at Colfax-Mingo and Ankeny schools, she made innumerable friends and supporters.

She was adored by the congregations of Ankeny Baptist Church, Saylorville Church, and Lakeside Fellowship throughout her life. Katie acted as an unofficial greeter at every church she went and anxiously awaited Sunday worship with believers. The RiseUp special needs program at Saylorville Church and one-on-one aides at Lakeside will never know how much their overwhelming love for Katie from her first day buoyed up the entire Meers family.

Katie is survived in her immediate family by her sister, Alli Fisher, who works in autism therapy and carries on Katie’s love for children with special needs. Katie’s niece Dani, who is one, is the child of Alli and her husband Noah. Katie is also survived by her mother, Teri, who willingly sacrificed her own objectives to care for Katie 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Katie is also survived by her father, Trevor, who became a pastor at Lakeside Fellowship after Katie taught him to see God’s image in everyone he meets. Katie is also remembered by her grandparents, Gary and Janet Meers, whose golf cart at “Me-mee’s House” was one of Katie’s favorite locations, and Terry and Diane Southwick, who rearranged their own life to go to Iowa and aid Katie and her family in ways we can’t begin to quantify.

Our family finds solace in the promise of Scripture that Katie is already with Christ in a glorified body, doing tasks far beyond our capacities in this world. And we’d like to thank everyone who helped Katie. In his own words, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these, my brothers, you did it to me.” (Matt 25:39)
