Cathy, born as the youngest of twins on October 14, 1967, in St. Petersburg, Florida, spent her formative years in the Sunshine State. She pursued her education at the University of Miami, where she was a proud member of the Hurricanes’ “Band of the Hour” during their glory years.
Her journey in medicine led her to the University of North Carolina for medical school, followed by a residency in family medicine in Spartinburg, South Carolina, where she honed her skills and passion for caring for others. In 1996, Cathy completed her residency and made her way to Minnesota, where she found both professional fulfillment within the health system and personal joy in the serene beauty of the Mille Lacs Lake area. Cathy’s nurturing spirit extended to her family when she welcomed Joy Chenghui Xu into her heart in 2000, adopting her from Nanjing, China. Cathy approached motherhood with boundless enthusiasm, engaging in activities such as volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and chaperoning school trips.
In 2005, Cathy’s family expanded once again when she adopted Shan Liang Dang from Luoyang, China. This addition transformed Cathy into an active sports mom and an impassioned advocate for children facing limb-related challenges. Cathy’s life was characterized by her tireless dedication to her family, her patients, and her community. She was not only a healer but also a champion for the well-being of others. Her impact on the lives of those she touched, both personally and professionally, will be remembered with gratitude and admiration.
