An inquiry has been opened into the circumstances surrounding the slaying of a man whose body was found to have gunshot wounds near Simonton Lake in Elkhart County on Monday evening. The victim was found to have been shot to death. The dead body of the man who had previously been missing was found in the region around the lake.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, officials were called to the 26000 block of Lake Drive at approximately 7:03 p.m. after receiving a complaint of what may have been gunfire in the surrounding area. The report was made by a concerned citizen. In response to the report, officials were dispatched to the location. The report was prepared out of an abundance of caution as a response to the possibility of an event involving firearms.
Our reporting colleagues at The Goshen News have informed us that the information on the claim was provided by a young man who is just 14 years old. According to this information, the claim was apparently submitted by the young man. Emergency personnel were able to identify the injured guy, who they identified as Garrett Weber after further investigation. When they found him, he was already injured from the gunshots that had been fired at him.
As a result of the findings of the preliminary inquiry, which demonstrated that the incidence took place only in one specific location, there is no reason for the general public to be concerned about the matter.
